What is 12 Cities, 1 Year?

Though there is a lot of stuff left to write here on our website, one thing that is available now is a slideshow presentation that explains the 12 Cities, 1 Year project. Some of our friends and family have been hearing about this as it’s taken shape over the past year. But others are still just learning about it every day.

Since I’ve heard the same questions so many times now, I can tell what parts of the project people are typically most interested in. And so those are the things the slideshow talks about. There are a couple ways for you to watch it. First, you can go here and page through the thing online. Second, you can download a PDF file of the whole slideshow and read it that way.

Wanna know more? Just post a comment and ask! I love answering questions.

  1. I checked this site a week ago to see the progress. It is looking much better now. Love the tropical flowers, looks like Belize instead of Missoula.

    1. Yeah, there are four or five built-in images to choose from. The original one I had up was the pyramids, so that was WAY off. Ultimately, I want to have that banner photo be a picture of our Prius. But I’ve got to wait for a day when it’s not snowing so I can get it washed and then take some photos in good sunlight. This last weekend turned out to be terrible for that.

  2. I watched the powerpoint which said that you were planning on making this a working journey. Since you are both unknowns going to do freelance work, do you have a backup plan in case it becomes harder to find jobs than you thought? Especially since the housing and food costs are expensive (and insurance).

    1. Yes. Beth has her existing book editing business, which she can do from virtually anywhere that has internet. And my current employer wants to hire me as a part-time contractor, working remote. (no guarantees, of course, but my boss strongly wants to find a way to keep me working for him instead of someone else)

  3. Ernie and I were just talking about your venture at lunch today. We were eating in a restaurant so that is probably what triggered his thoughts your way. He will be so happy to hear that you have a back-up plan for some cash income. He seems far more worried about it than you are.

  4. Yeah, I guess I’m not too worried about income. I’m highly employable if I should have to take a “regular job” sometime. And if Polycom can’t find a way to make it work, there are probably others who can. But I really hope this will give me a chance to develop the videography business. It’s tough to do that and work a regular full time job at the same time.

  5. Sounds like an adventure. Love that you have Portland on the list. There is lots to do and plenty of different districts to discover.
Enjoy your travels, sounds like an amazing adventure.
