welcome to Portland

We’re now in beautiful Portland, Oregon, also called The City of  Roses. Last Saturday we loaded up everything and drove from Seattle to Portland, stopping for a few hours in Tacoma to visit the Museum of Glass and get lunch. It didn’t take long for us to unpack and settle in to our apartment.

The place we rented is the basement of a home built sometime between 1900 and 1910. The family who lives upstairs invited us for supper with them the first night, which was really nice. In the next few days, we explored the neighborhood a little, went downtown one day, and drove around the east side of the city in search of an open rec center where we could lift some weights.

Now that we said “bye bye” to Seattle, I just updated the Seattle page on the site with a final list of the things we did and didn’t do while we were there. You can check it out if you’re curious.

Likewise, I just updated our Portland page to show where we’re staying, and to list the things people have suggested we do while we’re here. If you have any other suggestions, please leave a comment below and I’ll add it to our list. We appreciate advice and tips from our readers!

Speaking of which, I found that Living Social has a nice list of things “365 things to do” for Portland. I got a few great ideas from that. If you ever visit from out of town, you could probably benefit from this, too. Maybe they have a list like this for other cities, too; I don’t know.
