Grindhouse

I went to see “Grindhouse” this afternoon.  Beth’s out of town for the next two weeks, traveling around the country watching birds.  So I want to do all the stuff I wouldn’t otherwise do if she was here.  And “Grindhouse” was one of those things.

It was a hilarious set of two films, with some even more hilarious fake trailers thrown in before and after.  In fact, I’d almost be willing to pay to go see it again just for the “trailer” for an imaginary film called “Machete”.  Anyhow, contrary to most reviews I read, I think I enjoyed the zombie movie (“Planet Terror”) more than the driving movie (“Death Proof”) but they were both funny and over the top.

A couple little things I didn’t expect: Zoe Bell, who is a famous stuntwoman, plays herself in the second segment and does what appear to be totally amazing stunts.  I want to learn more about how they did it, because she did some stuff that I just can’t believe could be made safe enough to try.  Also, Bruce Willis has an almost-cameo role as a military officer in the first segment.  Quentin Tarantino (who wrote and directed “Death Proof”) and Rose McGowan both have roles in both films.

If you don’t appreciate action movies, turn your nose up at B-movies, or get grossed out, don’t go see these films.  But if you’re like me, I highly recommend them.  And you get two movies (plus some shorts) for the price of one, without even having to sneak into another theater!
