Unfinished business for Bush in final State of the Union address – CNN.com
Downplaying expectations, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said last week “it’s just not realistic” for the president to present any major new initiatives with less than a year in office
Based on that logic, I think we should withhold his pay for the remainder of 2008.
It reminds me of a scene in “Strange Brew“, a movie from the 1980’s about a pair of dumb Canadian brothers named Bob and Doug McKenzie.
In this scene, the bad guys have tampered with the brakes on the McKenzie brothers’ van, so that they will fail just as the brothers are driving down a very steep road leading to a nearby lake. Doug is driving when the brakes fail. He furiously tries to stop the van, stomping on the broken brake pedal, but the van just keeps going faster down the hill.
Then he takes his hands off the steering wheel, and folds his arms over his chest.
Bob shouts at him in disbelief, “What are you doing?”
And Doug replies, “No use steerin’ now.”
In other words, since the brakes have already failed, they’re doomed to crash, so why bother even trying to steer?
(Disclaimer: It’s been a long time since I saw the movie, so I may not have quoted the dialog 100% accurately, but you get the idea.)
