So, I posted a while back about how I hoped Apple would update their MacPro line. I’d like to upgrade from my PowerMac G5 sometime, but the current lineup of Intel-based Apple towers has a number of shortcomings and I’m hoping their 2nd generation solves those problems. Well, they released new products last week, but the MacPro wasn’t included. However, they did update the Mac mini, and so that’s what I got. This one, in fact.
My plan is for this to replace my big honkin’ Windows XP tower that sits under my desk in the den. Ironically, this little Mac mini is significantly more powerful than my current desktop which is probably literally 20 to 30 times the size. More memory and faster processor, that’s for sure. In fact, two processors instead of one. The only shortcoming is that the Mac mini has a crappy graphics processor, built into the tiny motherboard. So, assuming I do switch completely over, it’ll mean the end of my PC gaming days unless I want to play games that are 5 or 6 years old. But that’s not really all that big of a deal, because I haven’t been doing any online shoot-em-ups for about two years now. Too busy with other stuff, I guess.
My Mac mini is supposed to arrive Thursday or Friday this week, and I’m very excited to try it out. My conversion from Microsoft Windows to Mac OS X is nearly complete.
